John Bennett
The Bay Is Frozen
the bay is frozen
the gull
wheeling within his wings
and the snow
reflect each other
the mallard
forages among phragmites
finding a last supper
the grebe
preens the oil from her feathers
and quietly freezes
all is still
all is dying
in the name of the frost
and of the ice
and of the north wind
John Bennett was born in England and introduced to poetry by his mother's sister, who wrote
poetry and song lyrics. He came to the USA and worked as an ambulance EMT and attended
classes in Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at New York University. His poems
have appeared in Word Riot,Tangent, Tipton Journal, and Gtwentytwo.
