Issue One
A Note from the Editors

We began Chickenpinata as a journal
that would feature poetry by new
and emerging writers that was
accessible, interesting, engaging, and
finally, entertaining.  In other words,
we wanted a journal filled with the
kinds of poetry we like to read, by
poets more interested in sharing
language's possibility than creating
the kind of "art" that constipates a
great many "famous" literary journals.

If we sound dismissive of our betters,
it's only because we believe good
poetry should have a wide audience,
and a lot of good poetry in the print
journals gets passed over in favor of
Name Brand Poets, who frankly,
aren't always on their literary game.

We are very proud of the poetry we
are featuring in our inaugural issue of
Chickenpinata, and we are incredibly
grateful to all the poets who took a
chance on us and allowed us the
privilege of reading their work.

We believe that you will enjoy the
poems you find here.  If you do, let
us know, and if you don't, let us know
anyway.

Thank you,
Eds.
